“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” Proverbs 13:20
Often when I read this verse I can’t help but think of a plain Texas proverb that states: “If you lay down with dogs, you’re gonna come up with fleas!”
Who you hang around with will impact the person you are. And the people your kids hang with will influence the people they become.
If you kids spend time with those who are wise, they will become wise people. If they hang out with fools, their life’s going to be a mess!
As parents, it’s vital you impart this wisdom to your children. They need to understand that who they choose to hang out with will greatly determine who they’ll become in the next five to ten years.
I’m so thankful my parents and grandparents instilled this principle in me as a young boy. And while I’ve made a few mistakes along the way, I’m grateful I was always connected to a church and was always involved with Christian friends.
Choosing wise friends will help save your kids from experiencing a lot of hurt and heartache along the way. And it will help set the stage for their success in life! So help your kids choose their friends wisely.
