“Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome”¦.”Nehemiah 4:14

Few emotions are as powerful as fear. It can cause us to do things we wouldn’t do under normal circumstances, and it can keep us from doing things we ought to do.

Nehemiah and his fellow wall builders in Jerusalem were being threatened with death. Talk about something to fill you with fear! A death threat would certainly get my attention.

But God doesn’t want us to live in fear of others, because He knows it can hinder us from His work. Second Timothy 1:7 tells us that “God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power.” What this means for you is that feelings of fear aren’t from God, they’re from Satan. Which means as a believer, you can defeat fear!

And Nehemiah gives us the key to combating fear in the verse above: “Remember the Lord.”

When you’re feeling afraid, remember the Lord. Remember His faithfulness. Remember His goodness. Remember that He’s your shield and protector. Remember today that the God we serve is great and awesome, and He will not let you down!

DON’T FEAR, BUT “REMEMBER THE LORD”!
