“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”Matthew 5:13-14
As you read these verses there is a powerful truth that many Christians miss. That truth is simply this:As a follower of Christ, you are influential.
So let me ask you, what does that Christian influence look like in your life? Or to put it even more plainly, are you a good or bad influence on those around you?
As we think about salt and light, it’s important to realize what each of them do. They penetrate. Salt penetrates the substance and flavor of meat”¦and light penetrates darkness. They both influence what they touch.
Our world is full of darkness, and is in desperate need of the light of Jesus Christ. And our world is full of decay and is in urgent need of the salt of the Gospel. And the only way our world will know that light and salt is through believers like you!
As a believer, are you penetrating your particular area of influence for the Lord Jesus Christ? Are you showing Christ off in how you think”¦how you speak”¦how you react to stress”¦and how you serve others?
Are you being salt and light to a decaying and dark world? You are influencing the world around you”¦for good or for ill.
ASK GOD TO MAKE YOU A GOOD INFLUENCE ON THOSE AROUND YOU
